What sparked your journey into the digital art world and led to the creation of Muro?

My journey into the digital art realm and the birth of Muro were sparked by my academic background in Innovation Management and extensive experience in the tech and creative sectors, particularly with Web3, AI, and curation markets.. For the last four years I have been participating and researching creative industry projects to understand the digital art ecosystem's needs. The turning point came during the COVID pandemic, when the challenges faced by physical artists,  such as restrictions on in-person events, highlighted the urgent need for digital monetization strategies. Recognizing this, together with a group of fantastic professionals and patrons of the arts, I began guiding and educating artists towards NFTs and digital marketplaces, aiming to unlock new avenues for their work's monetization and exposure. Acknowledging a gap in digital art accessibility and the potential for a new economic model, Muro was envisioned. It was beyond simply selling art as NFTs; it was about revolutionizing how digital art is accessed, appreciated, and monetized, enabling artists to stream their work to a broader audience. Additionally, the emotional resonance of art and its impact on well-being led me to explore neuroaesthetics further.

This understanding informed Muro's approach, focusing on personalized art consumption that enhances emotional well-being. In essence, Muro emerged from a blend of technical insight, a response to artists' needs during a critical time, and a deep appreciation for art's emotional power, aiming to redefine the digital art landscape.

How is Muro working to redefine the Digital Art experience and its accessibility?

Muro is revolutionizing the digital art scene by moving beyond conventional marketplaces towards a gallery-like experience, enhancing accessibility and enjoyment. Within the challenges posed by the pandemic, we saw technologic frontier like VR and AR emerging, yet, the question remains: How can we integrate art into our daily lives beyond being just an experience? For someone who appreciates Art and the curation of spaces, its impact in the ambiance is profound, therefore we've developed immersive spaces that integrate art into daily life, making it a vital component of our environment and well-being. While art inherently allows for self-reflection, our focus shifts to the idea that an artwork can change and move.

Born from the vision of digital art as a dynamic element in physical spaces,we aim to enrich ambiance and mood. Our platform focuses on personalization, allowing art to evolve with personal emotions and moods, transforming spaces into curated experiences.

At the heart of Muro—symbolized by the very name, which translates to "wall" in English—is our commitment to making art an integral, positive force in improving life quality, ensuring each piece is more than just a display—it's a tailored emotional journey.

How does Muro exemplify the fusion of Art and Technology in our increasingly interconnected Digital and Physical worlds?

Muro stands at the intersection of the digital and physical worlds, using technology as a bridge to connect people with art in meaningful ways. We aim to create a uniform aesthetic that feels intrinsic to the space rather than overly digital. To achieve this, we started collaborating with Muse Frame to seamlessly integrate the richness of digital art into our physical surroundings, thereby enhancing the everyday experiences of a global audience. The frame feels the gap where, now, we're not just displaying art; we're creating an immersive, interactive art ecosystem that resonates with the contemporary lifestyle, characterized by its blend of digital engagement and physical experiences. Moving forward we are exploring different mediums of display, moving from the traditional frame and integrating into AR, transparent screens, mini projectors, etc.

Muro integrates the correlation between slow consumption, neuroaesthetics, and emotional engagement with art. What was the process behind it?

Naturally, some artworks resonate more in personal spaces, while others thrive in exhibitions. Nevertheless, art itself belongs everywhere. I could envision engaging with art in my dentist's lobby not to feel bored, or even with my mouth full open looking at art instead of the typical white light. Same goes while waiting in the reception of a spa, hotel or restaurant. Therefore, with this idea in mind, we developed a platform that adapts to these nuances, promoting slow consumption and emotions tailored to the environment. The goal is to transform the need to fill empty moments of our time with art, instead of the non-stopping scrolling on any screen. Muro took a significant step forward when I crossed paths with Ari Peralta, CEO of Arigami and an expert in sensory design and neuroscience, along with Francisco Texeira, Co-founder of the Portuguese Association de Neurofeedback and Neurotechnology, and founder of MuLabs. Beyond the art itself, the power lies in understanding precisely how an artwork influences emotions. This understanding can be leveraged to ignite specific emotions, shaping one's day and reflecting their state. With a focus on hyper-personalization and by starting research with MuLabs, we are crafting a system that is mood-based and centers on environmental cues. This field, known as neuroaesthetics, explores how we perceive and create art, respond to it, and interact with objects and scenes that trigger profound emotions, often of pleasure. Through the use of EEG waves, we aim to understand how users emotionally connect with specific forms of art and explore the reasons behind these connections. In the future, our goal is to utilize AI to generate our own visuals that align with user preferences, continuously adapting to advancements in technology throughout the generation process. The choice of colors and shapes will be pivotal in shaping the output, enhancing our understanding of how users emotionally connect with art through EEG waves.Such understanding will enable us to offer users a mood curation service alongside art curation—a potent combination for business solutions.

How does Muro tackle the challenge of slow consumption in today's attention economy while incorporating the dynamic nature of technological advancements?

We are revolutionizing the way art is experienced in the digital realm. Our app acts less like a traditional media consumption platform and more like a remote control, bringing art right into your personal spaces. The goal is to weave art seamlessly into the fabric of your everyday life, encouraging meaningful interaction with each piece without being glued to a screen.Easy access to art and showcasing it in your preferred environment are at the heart of what we do. With Muro, the aim isn't to have you spend more time on the app but to enrich your living spaces with art. This represents a significant shift in how digital platforms are typically designed; we're moving away from the relentless pursuit of user attention to focus on a more enriching, art-centered experience. The integration of art and technology plays a pivotal role in achieving this vision. We accept Digital Artworks that can be NFTs or not, but by leveraging NFT technology, artworks become exchangeable and traceable assets, enriching the art's value through provenance and the potential for community engagement. Moreover, we are curious to explore the possibilities of Generative Art and other innovative forms, like holograms, to introduce dynamic artworks that evolve, reflecting changes in season or mood, and breaking away from the static nature of traditional art pieces.

How do you see Muro contributing to the Future of Art?

We are set on redefining the future of art by collaborating with pioneering artists committed to innovation and continuous evolution. Our approach emphasizes the importance of provenance and fair credit, fostering an environment where experimentation across mediums and technologies flourishes. In partnership with 204 and MuLabs, we're launching a creative studio in Lisbon, designed as a hub for artistic exploration and co-creation. This studio isn't just a workspace; it's a testament to Muro's commitment to pushing boundaries, embodying a culture of dynamism, innovation, and collaborative spirit. Here, artists are encouraged to experiment and evolve.

We play the role of giving artists the tools to explore various mediums, prototypes, and projects, aim for interactivity, adaptability, and continuous generative evolution of digital art as a medium for wellbeing.

This unique blend has allowed me to explore the exciting overlap of art and technology, using it as a canvas to bring the visions I had in mind and exhibit in beautiful venues. Our studio has become a hub of creativity, where inspiration flows and impacts subtly but profoundly. As we progress, our vision for Muro becomes clearer: enhance well-being through personalized art experiences on a platform that is sustainable and fair to creators.
